Customized Estate Plans for Complex EstatesManhasset NY Estate Planning Attorney Queens County New York Asset Protection Lawyer

My estate planning clients typically have two primary goals:

  1. To ensure that their assets are distributed in accordance with their wishes
  2. To minimize the taxes imposed on the assets they have worked so hard to accumulate for the benefit of their heirs

While there are a number of estate planning techniques that address these dual concerns, choosing the rights tools for your family situation can be best accomplished in consultation with an estate planning lawyer who understands the unique needs of high-net-worth clients. In addition to my law degree from St. John's University School of Law, I earned an MBA from Columbia, am a Certified Public Accountant, and have experience in both accounting and taxation.

Over the past 30 years, I have built a successful law practice providing the leading families of Nassau and Queens County with customized estate plans that accomplish their goals and suit their temperaments. Contact me to begin yours.

Crafting a Plan to Minimize Taxes and to Ensure Care for Others

For some clients, avoiding or minimizing taxation now and in the future is the primary goal. Trust, insurance, and gifting strategies can accomplish your goals. Other clients place equal or greater value on addressing the financial needs of certain family members. An important first step in preparing any customized estate plan is an analysis of family relationships.

  • Do you have a child with a special need who will require long-term care?
  • Do you have a family member with a mental health concern?
  • Do you have an heir who has demonstrated an inability to manage his or her assets?
  • Are you concerned that significant family assets may leave family control through a divorce?
  • Is there a family member whom you do not wish to inherit from you? (If this is the case, care must be taken to minimize the risk of later litigation.)

There are estate planning tools available to address each of these concerns. Ask me about:

  • Life insurance trusts (ILIT)
  • Stretch IRA trusts
  • Revocable inter vivos trusts
  • Generation skipping trusts
  • Charitable trusts
  • Unitrusts
  • Annuity trusts
  • Credit shelter trusts (also called bypass trusts)
  • Q-TIP trusts
  • Special needs trusts
  • Incentive trusts
  • Family limited partnerships
  • Powers of appointment
  • Limited liability companies (LLCs)

As your estate planning attorney, I provide sound guidance, based upon my years of experience, to help you choose the tools that will effectively meet your goals. I then draft the documents and take such other action as may be necessary to put your plan in place.

Estate planning is not a one-time process. I continue to support my clients with a long-term relationship, and am available to work with heirs and beneficiaries when the time comes for probate and estate administration.
